To perform a search operation

To perform a search operation:

  1. Verify that the date, time, and time zone on the system are correct.
  2. See How to correct your Windows system clock.
  3. Reboot the computer. If the problem persists, move to the next step.
  4. Verify that there are no hidden files and folders.

Windows 7:

  • Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options
  • Click View tab.
  • On the View tab, verify that:
    • Show hidden files, folders, and drives is selected.
    • Hide extensions for known file types is cleared.
    • Click Apply and OK.

Windows 10:

  • Right-click on the Windows Start button
  • Choose Control Panel and open the File Folder Options.
  • On the View tab, verify that:
    • Show hidden files and folders is selected.
    • Hide file extensions for known file types is cleared.
    • Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) is cleared.
  • Click Yes when prompted.
  • Click Apply and OK.

Now Search the computer hard drive for files with future file dates.

Windows 7:

  • Open Windows Explorer.
  • In the upper right, click in the search box and then click on Date modified.
  • Click on today's date and drag well into the future to set the date range for the search. The search will begin automatically.

Windows 10:

  • Open Windows Explorer
  • In the search bar type todays date and a date far in the future.
  • An example is "datemodified:‎11/‎10/‎2016 .. ‎11/‎10/‎2098"
  • The search will begin automatically.
