Some XLIFF software generates faulty XLIFF files that are missing required attributes in their <file> tag such as ''datatype'', ''source-language'', ''original''. If any of these attributes are missing, Wordfast Pro will fail to add it to your project. Currently (as of version 6.5), no error message is displayed when Wordfast Pro is unable to load a faulty XLIFF file. If the XLIFF file is not added to your project, you should check the ''full.log'' log file (located in C:\Users\[username]\.gs4tr.editor on Windows machines) for details.

Wordfast Pro supports translation of XLIFF files. The file extension for such files may be XLIFF, XLF, SDLXLIFF[1] (Trados SDL variant), or MQXLIFF (MemoQ variant).[2]

To translate a XLIFF file, follow the steps as with any other supported file type:

  1. Open or Create a project and add the XLIFF file as the source file.
  2. Translate like you normally do.
  3. Upon finishing your translation, click on the Save File As Translated icon (or, alternatively, clean up the project) to save the file as its native format.

The translated file will have the original file name extension (such as .xlf or .sdlxliff) and will be ready to be used in the original XLIFF software.

Supported Versions

Currently (version 6.5), Wordfast Pro does not support XLIFF version 2.0 files. If you try to add an XLIFF v. 2.0 file to your project, Wordfast Pro fill fail to add it but no error message will be displayed.

  2. The Wordfast Pro internal file type, TXLF, is actually a XLIFF variant, too.
