Mac-related issues in Wordfast Pro
The installation of Wordfast Pro 5 on a Mac is straightforward. Just double-click the downloaded DMG file, then slide the Wordfast icon into the Applications folder. DO NOT run the application from the installer. Once you have installed the app in your applications folder, remove the installer.
Close and rename your current version of Wordfast Pro if you want to keep it, then install the new one. That is it!
Wordfast Pro Aligner is a beta module for Windows only. To align your old translations done without a CAT tool to create a Translation Memory, you can either use one of our other Alignment tools or Bitext2TMX.
As of version 5.7 (release date December 7, 2018), Wordfast Pro 5 for Mac comes bundled with a PDF converter. Nonetheless, you can also use Wordfast Word Count to convert PDF files. WFWC is an automatic tool that counts the words in your documents using the same word count methodology as Wordfast. The tool will also convert PDF files into DOCX files.
Is Mac constantly crashing? First of all, make sure that you are running Mac OS version 10.11 or higher. If you have a touch bar, please follow the instructions and download the fix located in this folder.
Insufficient memory (Wordfast Pro 3)
When translating very large documents (e.g. PowerPoint), Wordfast Pro 3 may tell you it hasn’t got enough memory. However, when you increase the memory amount (in Memory Preferences) from the default 256 MB to the maximum value 2048 MB and restart Wordfast Pro 3, the new value doesn’t "stick" (in other words, you still have 256 MB). You can use the following workaround to force Wordfast Pro 3 to accept the higher memory amount:
- Open the Applications folder in Finder
- Right click on the Wordfast app and select Show package content
- Navigate your way to the Eclipse folder
- Open the file eclipse.ini in TextEdit
- Locate the line that starts with Xmx
- Change the value to 2048
- Save the change
