The translation memory (TM) format used by Wordfast Classic is a tab-delimited text file whereas the TM format used by Wordfast Pro 5 is a SOLR database. If you want to use a Wordfast Pro 5 TM with Wordfast Classic, you need to export the TM as a TMX file (e.g. TM.tmx), then import it with Wordfast Classic using the Select TM button. Upon importing the TM.tmx file, Wordfast Classic will copy the content of the TM.tmx file into a newly created tab-delimited text file called TM.txt and select it as your active TM.

When using a Wordfast Pro TM in Wordfast Classic, you can get better matching rates (sometimes raised from 70s to 100) by removing the tags in the TM.

The easiest way to do this is to use the Wordfast Classic filter "Remove All Tags":

  1. Open Data Editor by clicking the second rightmost toolbar button, and then open the Tools tab.
  2. Do not forget to (1) "Reorganize" the TM, and (2) lower the "Fuzzy Threshold" to 50.
