Computer-Aided Translation

Computer-assisted translation or computer-aided translation (CAT) is a form of translation wherein a human translator translates texts using computer software designed to support and facilitate the translation process.

The typical target audience for CAT programs are human translators, reviewers, and proofreaders. Managers of translation projects use CAT tools in order to analyse, pre-process, or post-process translation documents.

CAT software usually offers translation memory technology and terminology management. Many CAT programs enable integration of machine translation into human translation workflows.
